Ingredients You Will Need

Sugar Cookies – Find the Lofthouse sugar cookies in the bakery at your grocery store. These are soft baked sugar cookies with that show-stopping thick frosting. Any color of cookies works.

Cream Cheese – Reach for softened cream cheese for this truffle recipe. It is a must so you have soft workable truffle dough.

Melting Chocolate – I used green candy melts for dipping the truffles in. This works great as the chocolate mixture is already colored.

Coconut Oil – Add a little coconut oil to thin up the melting wafers and help the mixture harden nicely.

Sprinkles – Optional but a great way to add even more color to the truffle balls.

Variations

  • You can use any flavor of Lofthouse cookies. They sometimes have flavored cookies so feel free to grab any flavor you would like.
  • Use any color or style of chocolate for dipping the balls. Just use coconut oil or shortening to add to the chocolate to help make it set up in a firm texture.
  • Add a few drops of your favorite extract. Almond, vanilla, peppermint, orange, etc. It will create new flavors for the cookie balls.
  • Add mix-ins like candy bars chopped up, mini chocolate chips, M&M’s crushed cookies, etc. Pick and choose what you would like for this recipe.
  • Want a salty and sweet truffle? Crush up some pretzels or Rice Krispie cereal and mix in.

Tips for Success

Soft Sugar Cookies

It is important to buy Lofthouse sugar cookies. They are soft-baked sugar cookies with that thick velvety frosting. These cookies are the base of the truffles and without them, you will find the texture will be off.

Softened Cream Cheese

Reach for softened cream cheese for this recipe. It is going to help you get the mixture combined well with the sugar cookies. If the cream cheese is straight from the fridge it will be too hard to mix.

Crumble Cookies

Before you add in the cream cheese take the time to crumble the sugar cookies into a fine crumble. You can use a mixer, food processor, or even your hands to create that crumbly texture.

Adjust Sweetness

If your cookie truffle dough is too sweet add in some extra cream cheese. If it is not sweet enough you can add another cookie or two, or even a small splash of vanilla extract to help enhance the sweetness.

Cookie Scoop

I do recommend using a cookie scoop for measuring out the cookie truffle dough. This will help ensure the dough balls are evenly sized so it offers a gorgeous presentation.

Melting Candy Melts

You can melt the candy melts in the microwave or even in a double boiler on the stovetop. Feel free to use either method. You will find both instructions on the back of the package. I prefer the microwave for easy prep.

Chilling Truffle Balls

After you shape the truffle balls you will place them on a lined baking tray and refrigerate them to allow the dough to set up a bit. I recommend doing this so your balls don’t change shape when you dip in the warm candy melts.

Tap Off Excess Chocolate

Make sure to tap off the excess chocolate on each ball as you are getting ready to place it on the tray. This will help provide a better-looking truffle that doesn’t get chocolate pooled up at the bottom.

Storing

Refrigerate the cookie ball truffles in the fridge in a sealed container. I recommend if you are going to stack the truffles place a parchment or wax paper between each layer to prevent them from sticking. You will get to eat these for around a week before they begin to go bad.

Now you can also freeze truffles. Place in a freezer-friendly container. Freeze for 4-5 months. Then thaw in the fridge, and then enjoy. Therefore freezing truffles help extend the shelf life of these bite-size goodies.
